LUNAR IMAGES

Our moon has fascinated mankind throughout the ages. Earth's only natural satellite and the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System.
The average centre-to-centre distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,403 kilometres or 238,857 miles, about thirty times the diameter
of the Earth. The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days. The Moon's diameter is 3,474 kilometres or 2,159 miles,
a little more than a quarter of that of the Earth. Thus, the Moon's surface area is less than a tenth that of the Earth and about a quarter
the Earth's land area, approximately as large as Russia, Canada, and the United States combined and its volume is about 2 percent
that of Earth. The pull of gravity at its surface is about 17 percent of that at the Earth's surface.

Total Lunar Eclipse
20th February 2008

I managed to brave the cold well sort of, as I am a wimp. I remained close to the comfort of John Armstrong’s
home where we could thaw out every 15 minutes or so and we both had a great night observing the Total Eclipse.
It was so cold the LCD readout on the hand pad of my CG5 mount was slow to react and my camera battery showed
up as being dead half way through the eclipse, I exchanged the battery but same thing, but after taking it inside for
5 minutes it too thawed out and worked fine, I figure the electronics do not like the bitter minus temperatures any
more than I do!!!. Here are a few photos taken with my Stellarvue Nighthawk 80mm Refractor and Canon 400D.
ISO 100, Exposure 1 sec.
