Supported by the Stephen Wessling Observatory, The Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers and The Newaygo Conservation district.

I put this music video together for my first  Astrophotography Exhibition at the Dogwood Center Fremont MI

featuring 12 of my best images to date.

Open House 28th October, 2009 (home schooled group)

John Armstrong helping Terry with his group of
home schooled children as they came to the observatory
on October 28, 2009 to see some of the wonders in the
skies that are not visible to the naked eye.
The observatory would not hold the entire group,
which numbered 12 or so total. There were additional
telescopes available.

Terry inside with the remainder of the group, showing
them how the images come from the telescope, and are displayed
on the laptop monitor, so that one can see the image in real time.
Don Nordyke and his family were excited to see what is hidden
in the skies above us.
Planets, galaxies, and star clusters were all visible.

As the fog settled in, visibility diminished, and
the temperatures dropped, but as you can tell, it didn't seem
to dampen enthusiasm. Often you will find the astronomy
hobbyist out in sub zero temperatures, as long as the skies
are clear. They will brave the cold for the images they can
achieve.

Here the kids were free to look at the objects overhead and
see them without the aid of capturing the image to the
laptop monitor. The only disadvantage in this, is there are no colors
in space, they only become visible after many exposures and processing
of the photos. Though they are *raw*, the images are still a sight
to behold.

Again we see the way the images from the telescope
are displayed on the monitor (middle left), so that the
progress of the astrophotography can be monitored as the
images are acquired. This allows the astronomer to realign
and adjust his scope if needed.

Terry also held an open house for the members of the Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers and the area neighbors. Many attended
and a good time was had by all. Regrettably, the temperatures were cold and no pictures were taken. Terry hopes to have more open houses this year, and we shall keep you posted.
